MOSCOW, RUSSIA – OCTOBER 27: Kim Kallstrom (C) of FC Spartak Moscow in action during the Russian Premier League match between FC Spartak Moscow and FC Mordovia Saransk at the Luzhniki Stadium on October 27, 2012 in Moscow, Russia.

Moscow, Nov 11 – Ghanaian forward Majeed Waris has joined Spartak Moscow from Swedish side Hacken, the Russian club said.

The 21-year-old, who had been linked to Everton and Chelsea, has signed a “long-term” deal, Spartak said Saturday without providing further details.

“Spartak are a big club with big prospects,” Waris said on the team’s website, adding that Spartak’s 1-2 Champions League defeat to Celtic had inspired him to sign.

“The team caught my interest after I watched the game against Celtic. I liked the team, it seemed that I can develop and express myself here.”

Waris was the Swedish top flight’s top scorer 23 goals in 29 matches last season as Hacken secured their highest-ever finish with second place.

Waris, who has four caps for Ghana, joins fellow ex-Hacken player Kim Kallstrom at Spartak.

Spartak are bottom in Group G of the Champions League group stage, with three defeats from four games and two fixtures remaining, and are sixth in the Russian league.
