Gloucester v Leyton Orient - FA Cup With Budweiser 1st Round

Green Valley Sports Club – the only second division I-League club from Assam – has decided to rope in the services of former ONGC coach Subrata Bhattacharya as the team’s chief coach for the upcoming season.

According to sources close to the Green Valley Sports Club, its top-brass (club president Pulak Goswami) is working out the modalities with Subrata Bhattacharya. If everything goes according to plan, the new coach is expected to be unveiled soon.

Subrata Bhattacharya is an AFC Level A coach and his first coaching assignment will be the Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) Super League League that kicks off in August.

It may be mentioned here that Green Valley Sports Club is currently coached by former state footballer and level C coach Naresh Chhetry – the team have been hitting the practice drills at the Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati.

Subrata’s biggest test will be the second division I-League, which is scheduled to commence by mid-November across various venues in the country.

It was learnt that Green Valley made a bid to snap up experienced Mridul Banerjee as its chief coach but could not succeed in its effort.

Green Valley Sports Club is the third team from the North-east to feature in next season’s I-League – Shillong Lajong and Rangajied – both clubs from Meghalaya earlier made it to the top-tier of I-League.

Green Valley have been in good form recently. They emerged triumphant in the recently-held Premier Agro Bio-Tech 9th N.N. Bhattacharya Invitation Football Tournament, which was played at the Nehru Stadium, where they out-duelled GSA Super Division League champions NF Railway SC 7-5 via a tie-breaker in the final.

Club sources say Green Valley has decided to retain the Nigerian duo of Michel Lucky Kelechukwe and Nnamdi Jonathan.

The club has also lapped up a few players from Manipur and Bengal.
