The Footy Mumble: Jose Mourinho, Lionel Messi create World Records!

Jose Mourinho makes Guinness world record!

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho’s record of an unbeaten streak at home for eight years and 362 days for four different clubs has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World records.

The record began during his days at Porto, spanning spells at Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid. It began when Porto lost 3-2 to Beira-Mar and ended with a 0-1 loss to Sporting Gijon on 2nd April 2011.

Guinness have now officially recognized the record, saying,

“The Special One: Jose Mourinho (Portugal) has the record for the longest unbeaten period of a football coach playing at home. For eight years and 362 days, from February 22, 2002 to February 19, 2011, did not drop a home game as the coach of Porto (Portugal), Chelsea (UK), Inter Milan (Italy) and Real Madrid (Spain).”

Messi rebuffs £250 million Russian approach

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has rejected a record £250 million offer from a Russian club, according to Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo.

The paper claims an unidentified Russian club made the stupendous offer to activate Messi’s release clause.

It is claimed that the Argentinian magician, who has scored an incredible 91 goals this calender year, rejected an offer of up to €30 million a year in salary after tax.

Messi reportedly rejected the offer as he wanted to continue winning titles with Barcelona instead of leaving for money in the prime of his career.

Pretty incredible, if the story is true, but a sensible decision too, we feel.

Daily Transfer Updates

In today’s transfer updates, Radamel Falcao has denied that he will be leaving Atletico Madrid in January, with Chelsea making him their top transfer target.

That has not stopped some, however, from claiming that the striker will only stay at the club until the end of the season as a gesture of thanks. For what the thanks is exactly, we have no idea about.

Napoli have meanwhile rejected a massive €55 million bid for Edinson Cavani. Pretty impressive, considering most clubs would have sold out for that price.

Meireles spits on referee!

Raul Meireles, the former Chelsea midfileder, earned an 11-game ban for spitting at a referee after being sent off in Fenerbahce’s match against Galatasaray recently.

The ban has been reduced to 4 games now but the despicable attitude of the player is clear nevertheless.
