The International transfer window shut on Monday, October 5. With 105 new additions, Premier League clubs alone splurged £1.24 billion on transfers this summer, taking the total spending over the £2-billion mark.

Some clubs did better than others, while one club in particular had no qualms in splashing the cash.

Coming off a fresh transfer ban, Chelsea broke the bank for their squad overhaul with a transfer spending spree of £222m, bringing in the likes of Kai Havertz (£71m), Timo Werner (£48m), and Ben Chilwell (£45m) for a hefty price tag.

#10 Mauro Icardi - Inter Milan to PSG (£45m/$58.3m)

Paris Saint-Germain completed a permanent deal for star striker Mauro Icardi, after bringing in the Argentine from Inter Milan on a season-long loan the previous year. The 27-year old penned a four-year deal after PSG struck a £45m agreement with Inter. The ace forward netted 12 goals in 20 Ligue 1 games, and five goals in six Champions League outings for the French Champions.

Arsenal pulled off the biggest signing of this year's transfer deadline by triggering Thomas Partey's £45 million release clause. The Ghanian midfielder came through the Atletico Madrid youth setup and has been an integral part of Diego Simeone's plans since his breakout season in 2016.

The Gunners retained interest on Partey throughout the summer and finalized a dramatic deal in the final hours, after offloading Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi on loan deals to Atlético Madrid and Hertha Berlin respectively.

Chelsea made the biggest bargain deal of the window by snapping up RB Leipzig's frontman Timo Werner for £47.5 million. The jet-heeled German has developed into one of Europe's most coveted forwards and is coming on the back of his most productive season, scoring 34 goals and creating 13 more in 45 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.

With his exceptional versatility, link-up play, and clinical finishing abilities, Werner is expected to boss the Premier League for years to come.

#7 Ben Chilwell - Leicester City to Chelsea (£50m/$64.8m)

English left-back Ben Chilwell joined Chelsea on a five-year contract from Leicester City for a hefty price tag of £50 million. The 23-year-old England International came through Leicester's youth set-up and has been a regular fixture for the Foxes since his debut in late 2016, amassing 99 Premier League appearances. The young full-back was superb on his Premier League debut for the blues, scoring and assisting in their 4-0 route of Crystal Palace.

Bosnia and Herzogovina star Miralem Pjanic moved from Juventus to Barcelona for a massive fee of £54.8 million, penning a four year contract in the process. 'The Pianist' perfected his trade at Metz and Lyon before moving to Italy. During his stint at Roma, he was considered as one of the best midfielders in the Serie A. and eventually made a big money move to Turin. The 30-year-old midfielder enjoyed a trophy-laden four years at Juventus, and is banked on to make an immediate impact at Camp Nou. The catalans have also inserted a massive £365 million release clause to his contract ahead of his arrival.

#5 Alvaro Morata - Chelsea to Atletico Madrid (£59.2m/$76.7m)

After being loaned in from Chelsea for 18 months, Atletico Madrid fulfilled their obligation to buy the Spaniard before loaning him out to Juventus. The £59.2 million rated Spaniard's move paved the way for Luis Suazre's arrival at Atletico.

Morata previously played for Juve between 2014 and 2016 and was quintessential in their consecutive Seria A title wins. 'The Old Lady' have the option to buy Morata at the end of this season for £41 million or after a second campaign on loan for about £32 million.

Manchester City secured the services of Benfica's Ruben Dias for £62 million to sort out their shoddy defence. The highly-promising center-back has penned a six-year deal and arrived just after City's 5-2 humbling at the hands of Leicester City.

The Pep Guardiola managed side has consistently shipped goals, and Dias would be the perfect partner to complement Aymeric Laporte. The Portugal International is a natural leader and will be a much-needed vocal and proactive presence for the Cityzens at the back.

Tipped by many as the long-term successor to Xavi Hernandez, Arthur arrived from Gremio in 2018 and had an encouraging start to life at Camp Nou. Although the 23-year-old stagnated in the recently concluded season, the primary reason behind his sale is touted to be financial.

Chelsea's acquisition of Bayer Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz grabbed headlines for being the most expensive transfer of the Premier League. His mighty £72 million price tag has made him Chelsea's second-most expensive recruit after Kepa Arrizabalaga. With a great foundation in off-ball abilities and exceptional football IQ, the two-footed German is considered as the biggest prospect of his generation.

The 21-year old's solitary season at Lille fetched a stellar return of 18 goals in all competitions, grabbing the attention of a whole host of top European clubs. But, it's the Neapolitan outfit who have seized him and his fee could potentially rise to £80 million with add-ons.

As a youngster, Osimhen used to sell bottled water on the streets of Olusosun. His remarkable sporting journey now continues, as he is not only the biggest transfer of the summer, but he has also become the most expensive african player of all time.
