The English Premier League is back and it brought with it all the excitement that we always anticipate. All the goals, the defences, the saves, and then, the atmosphere. The EPL has not failed us; we have been treated to a lot of fantastic packages since it resumed this term.

From the 8-0 mauling of Watford by Manchester City to the 3-2 defeat of The Cityzens by Norwich City, the 100 percent record of Liverpool as well as the inconsistencies of the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Manchester United - we can say we have almost seen it all.

In the goalscoring front, we have not been disappointed either. A lot of the attackers were polishing their scoring boots during the break and since the moment the early season curtain-raiser was played, they have been scrambling to be at the top of their game.

With many finishers off to a great start, we take a look at the top 5 candidates for the Premier League Golden Boot come the end of the term:

#5 Raheem Sterling

Sterling is enjoying a brilliant start to the season
Sterling is enjoying a brilliant start to the season

Raheem Sterling was having a torrid season before Pep Guardiola showed up and since then, he has not stopped banging in the goals. He currently averages a goal every 90 minutes and if he continues to do so, he will be a shoo-in for the Premier League top scorer award this season.

Sterling has recorded 6 goals to his name from 6 Premier League appearances for Manchester City so far. He has been one of the standout performers in the Blues squad as they continue to chase their third consecutive EPL triumph under Guardiola.

The attacker ranks among the top finishers in the division at the moment. Given his tremendous abilities and prolific start, he is without doubts, a player to keep an eye on in the race for the Premier League Golden Shoe this season.

#4 Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

When it comes to listing the most prolific attackers in the Premier League at the moment, there is no way one can ignore Arsenal striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the list. Ever since he left the Bundesliga for the Emirates in the winter of 2018, the Premier League defenders have had a hard time trying to stop the Gabonese international.

Last season’s joint top scorer has continued from where he left off last year. He is scoring a goal every 90 minutes. He has scored 7 goals in the 630 minutes he has played in this season and with the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Mesut Ozil making goals for him, he could score even more than he did last term.

Aubameyang is a man on a mission in the EPL this season. Given his explosive start, it should not come as a surprise if he eventually tops the list at the end of the campaign.

#3 Teemu Pukki

Teemu Pukki is a name that most people did not know about last season since he was playing in the Championship. Now, he has taken the Premier League by storm with his incredible exploits in front of goal.

Converting every 104 minutes is a very good achievement for a striker, especially in the Premier League. What is more astonishing is the fact that he plays for Norwich City. Without taking anything away from them, it will take a lot of persuasion and enticing for them to keep hold of the striker if he continues at this rate.

Teemu Pukki has 6 goals to his name in 7 appearances in EPL so far this season - which ranks him among the most prolific attackers in the division at the moment. It'd be really interesting to see where he'd finish in the race for the Golden Boot.

#2 Tammy Abraham

Even though Chelsea have not hit the ground running as expected of them this season, one thing they cannot complain about is the form of Tammy Abraham at the moment. Finding the back of the net every 70 minutes is something even many elite attackers cannot really boast of this season.

It looks like it is only a matter of time before the Chelsea forward is amongst the best strikers in the league. Had he found the back of the net against the likes of Liverpool and Brighton, he could've been up there with Aguero. However, at the rate he is going, it'd be really difficult for anyone to stop him.

Abraham has been reliable in front of goal for Frank Lampard's men this season. He has bagged 7 goals for The Blues in 7 Premier League games so far - which puts him in a great position to fight for the Golden Boot come the end of the term.

#1 Sergio Aguero

Aguero is currently leading the pack
Aguero is currently leading the pack

This is a player that has lit up the Premier League season after season for almost 9 years now. But ever since the arrival of Pep Guardiola, Sergio Aguero has become absolutely unstoppable.

Last season, Aguero almost clinched the top scorer award. If not for time spent on the sidelines due to injury, he would have bagged the award. Yet, the Argentine has started where he left off last season. Finding the back of the net every 59 minutes, Aguero has shown that he still has a lot left in his tank despite turning 31 earlier this year.

If he goes on like this till the end of the season, Manchester City will be unstoppable.
