Top 5 Serie A signings from the January transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur v AFC Bournemouth - Premier League

Italian Serie A has been dominated by Juventus for almost the entirety of the last decade. The current Italian Champions made it eight scudetto's in a row when they won it last season. Many other Italian sides especially Inter Milan spent huge sums of money last summer in their bid to end this long-drawn dominance of the Turin-based club.

Along with Juventus, Inter were the most active Italian side last summer, splashing the cash particularly for Romelu Lukaku in a £74 million deal from Manchester United. And it was no different this winter as the Nerazzurri splurged the cash on some key players in their bid to dethrone Juventus from the summit of Italian football.

However, splashing the cash and getting the right players are two entirely different things. With that in mind, let's have a look some of the best signings made by Italian clubs in the recent January transfer window:

Victor Moses (Chelsea to Inter Milan) Loan

The Nerazzurri added the 29-year-old Nigerian full-back on loan from Chelsea in their efforts to win the Serie A for the first time since 2010. Although Moses hasn't been at his best for the last two years and has endured difficulty, this move is still more likely to pay off than not. Why?

First of all, Inter is a side that has quality but lacks experience, something that could come in very handy in the ongoing title race and Moses, himself a title-winner at Chelsea could help the team in that regard. Even more telling is the fact that Moses's best years came under the tutelage of Antonio Conte while he was in charge at Stamford Bridge, so the wing-back is already well-suited to the Italian's tactics.

The last and the most important thing is at 29, the Nigerian could be very well suited to Serie A's slow-paced nature.

Carles Perez (Barcelona to Roma) Loan

Roma signed Carles Perez from Barcelona on loan with an obligation to buy permanently next summer for around €18 million. The youngster broke through into Barcelona's first team under former coach Ernesto Valverde and could be a huge loss for Barcelona in the long run.

Perez is a pacy right-winger capable of taking on defenders, whip crosses and an ability to provide precise passes for his teammates. He also likes to cut inside from the right channel into the box and has a knack of finding the top corner with his incredible shooting ability.

Given Perez's ability, Roma has potentially landed a bargain for the future. Although only time will tell how much of a success the Spanish youngster would be at the Stadio Olimpico.

Dejan Kulusevski (Atalanta to Juventus) £30 million

Dejan Kulusevski is a Swedish midfielder known for his guile and ball-winning ability. Coming through the ranks at the renowned Atalanta academy, the player is considered one of the hottest young prospects in Europe.

Juventus forked out £30 million-plus conditional bonuses to sign the Swede from Atalanta and immediately sent him out on loan. Although now at Serie A side Parma, the midfielder is set to join the reigning Italian champions next summer.

Kulusevski is a physical player, and he can also create goalscoring chances from the midfield. The midfielder has everything in his Arsenal but perhaps his greatest weapon is a sudden change of pace that often leaves defenders for dead. He is a versatile player capable of playing anywhere in the midfield. However, it remains to be seen how good his performances will be at Juventus.

Zlatan Ibrahimović (Free transfer to AC Milan)

Zlatan Ibrahimović returned to AC Milan in the starting stages of the January window. Although now 38, the Swede still possesses an immaculate goalscoring prowess and is still one of the best in Europe. The player himself stated his desire to help his club reclaim their status as one of the best Italian sides. Zlatan's first words as a Rossoneri player were: "I'm coming back to a club I hugely respect and to the city of Milan I love. I’ll fight together with my teammates to change the course of this season. I will do everything to make it happen".

Ibrahimović agreed terms with the Rossoneri on an initial six-month contract with an option to extend further. The Swedish legend could prove to be a great addition to a goal-shy AC Milan side and could bring in some much-needed firepower at the San Siro Stadium.

Christian Eriksen (Tottenham Hotspur to Inter Milan) £17 million

Inter Milan struck the bargain of the window when they signed Christian Eriksen for a cut-price £17 million. The player had only six months left on his Tottenham contract when he joined this winter. The player was linked with many big clubs across Europe throughout the year but it was Inter who snaped the Dane. A £90 million player for a fee of only £17million is a great deal indeed. The Danish playmaker would add splendid quality to Inter's midfield and could very well be the last thing that they needed to win their first Serie A title in ten years.

With impressive passing accuracy and an ability to switch flanks and create goalscoring opportunities, the Dane could fit right into Antonio Conte's system at Inter.
