Spurs vs. Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have a history of producing mouthwatering clashes over the years. Whenever these two sides meet, there is always an air of excitement leaving the fans involved until the final whistle. There was very little to separate between the two teams, and a win would take Pochettino's side above Chelsea in the table.

Tottenham Hotspur started the game on the front foot and deservedly got their reward when Dele Alli headed in from Eriksen's brilliant cross. It could have been double for Spurs within a matter of minutes, but Song couldn't control his shot. Maurizio Sarri's side were all over the place in the opening exchanges of the match.

It went from bad to worse for the Italian as Harry Kane doubled the lead for Tottenham from a long-range shot, leaving Kepa stranded on his lines. Pochettino's side dominated the half, with Sarri cutting a frustrated figure on the sidelines. Trailing by two goals, his team had a lot to do in the second half.

Spurs started the second half as they did in the first, and Son Heung-Min scored one of the best goals of the season. The lead should have increased were it not for Kane and Alli squandering glorious chances to heap further miseries on Chelsea.

Towards the end, substitute Giroud pulled one back for the Blues, but it was too late for a sensational comeback. The victory took Pochettino's side above Chelsea in third place in the Premier League.

#3 Enthralling display from Spurs

The international break often comes at an inopportune time with teams tend to take some time to get back to their usual flow. However, that was not the case for Tottenham Hotspur this evening. Mauricio Pochettino's side was quick to get out off the blocks and kept the pressure throughout the first 45 minutes of the game.

It was the first time that all four of Eriksenn, Dele Alli, Harry Kane, and Song, started together and they completely bamboozled Chelsea's defense with their intricate passing and one-touch movements. The first breakthrough of the game came within the first 10 minutes through Dele Alli followed by a long ranger from Harry Kane to double the lead.

There were numerous instances in the first half were Spurs could have scored 4-5 goals with the number of chances they created but Kepa kept Chelsea in the game. However, Son Heung-min scored one of the best solo goals of the season in the second half to all but settle it for Tottenham.

#2 Awful defensive performance from Chelsea

The London derby is always a prestigious occasion to perform at your very best. However, Maurizio Sarri's side seemed to have forgotten that, with the Blues showcasing one of the worst performances of the season so far.

It all started from an Eriksen's cross leading to Alli's goal. Since then it became absolute Spurs dominance. Tottenham was repeatedly making inroads into the Chelsea penalty area with ease, causing spaces to open up between the midfield and the defense for the Blues. For Tottenham's second goal, David Luiz moved aside from a Harry Kane shot, leaving Kepa no chance at all.

The Brazilian was at fault again in the second half, where he didn't do enough to stop Song from taking a shot inside the box. The evening could have been more embarrassing for Chelsea if Kane and Alli converted a couple of glorious chances in the second half.

#1 Unbeaten run ends for Sarri

Sarri finally lost in the Premier League
Sarri finally lost in the Premier League

Maurizio Sarri made his reputation at Napoli as a manager who believed in quick possessional football and preferred playing attacking football throughout the 90 minutes. The Italian got the fans excited as they could see the team transforming from a defensive to a much more forward-minded side.

Before this match, the Blues, along with Manchester City and Liverpool were twelve games unbeaten in the Premier League. However, recent performances worried the manager, who believed that his side wasn't playing the way he would want them to.

Against Spurs, Maurizio Sarri's side lacked purpose from the start and never really managed to trouble the opposition at any point in the game. The defeat finally ended Chelsea's unbeaten run in the Premier League and all competitions as well. The Italian would hope it was a bad day at the office and the team performs better in the upcoming games.
