Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 125th Champions League goal against Ajax just before half time to give Juventus the much needed advantage. It was the Portuguese talisman's 8th Champions League goal against Ajax as he led the Bianconeri to a much-needed lead away from home.

Ajax had numerous chances throughout the game, but their forwards were not efficient in front of goal today. Juventus took the chances that came their way, and were undoubtedly more clinical than their rivals.

The Dutch side dominated possession and created chances more than the Old Ladies but they went into the half-time with a goal down. Ajax took the fight to the favourites, who defended well throughout the game, sitting deep and creating attack through the wide areas. De Ligt and co. had a good game too as they limited the amount of space Juventus got, barring that one strike from Ronaldo.

Just before the half time, The Bianconeri were quick to pounce on with a counter and right back Cancelo did a fantastic job with the cross, which was met by Ronaldo with a diving header. The former Real Madrid star again proved his mettle by popping up when his team needed him the most, especially when Juventus were not dominating.

The Bianconeri's joys were short lived as Ajax equalized shortly with a brilliant move thanks to Neres. Despite Ajax thoroughly dominating possession and creating chances, Juventus got back into the groove in the last few minutes with Costa hitting the post. Cancelo was one of the players who contributed much to Juventus' attack with his runs in the right flank.

Although Ronaldo is not getting any younger, his off the ball movements, athleticism and efficiency in the penalty box is remarkable. It was his 5th goal in the Champions League this season and 25th goal in all competitions. Despite being way behind Messi in the race for European Golden Shoe, Cristiano always deliver in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Fans have since taken to twitter to praise the Juventus star:
