Barcelona have completed the signing of Sassuolo forward Kevin-Prince Boateng on a six-month loan deal. The Blaugrana needed a replacement for Munir El Hadadi, and have now made the Ghana international their first January signing.

Rumours of Barca’s interest in Boateng became rife in the early hours of Monday and, by evening, the 31-year-old was announced as a player of the Catalan side.

Speaking after the announcement, the former Tottenham and AC Milan star described the move as a dream come true.

"I'm very happy. It's a big honour to be here and have the possibility to play for this great club," Boateng told Barca TV.
"For every kid who starts to play football I think it is a dream to play for a club like Barcelona, so for every player and especially for me it's a big dream come true."

The German-born Ghanaian has huge experience, having plied his trade in each of Europe’s top four leagues.

Boateng previously played in the English Premier League for Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth; in the Serie A for AC Milan and Sassuolo; and in the Bundesliga for Schalke, Herta Berlin, Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt.

He also has considerable experience in the Spanish La Liga, having line up for Las Palmas for a season, where he impressively netted 10 goals.

It is believed that Boateng will be a backup to Luis Suarez, but is expected to give the squad the much needed depth as Barca tries to challenge on all fronts.

Also, the Spanish champions have an option to make the move permanent for a £7.1m fee in the summer.

While the signing of Boateng came as a shock, many football fans have taken to Twitter to give their opinions on the move.

So, without much ado, let’s take a look at some of the best tweets:
