The India U16 boys will take on hosts Nepal U16 in the final of the second edition of the Under-16 SAFF Championship which will be played tomorrow at the Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu.

The India Under-16 colts have had a mixed tournament so far as they beat Sri Lanka 4-1 and Bangladesh 2-0 in the group stage to top Group B before having to go the full distance against Afghanistan and beat them on penalties.

Meanwhile, Nepal have had an easier progress to the final after beating Bhutan 7-0, drawing Afghanistan 1-1 and then beating Pakistan 3-0 to top Group A.

In the semifinals they trashed Bangladesh 5-1 to set-up a summit clash with regional powerhouse India.

After the semifinal victory against Afghanistan, India coach Gautam Ghosh said, “We missed the first penalty (against Afghanistan). But inspite of that, my boys showed a lot of character to comeback and win the game.”

“People say tie-breakers are all about luck but I don’t completely agree. It takes lot of skill to take and save penalties. I am proud of the way our Boys kept their calm and took the upper hand today in the tie-breaker,” added Ghosh.

The match will kick-off at 4pm Nepal time (3.45pm IST).
