What's the news?

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged his players to make sure that they don't go years without winning the league title like Liverpool.

In case you didn't know...

Manchester United and Liverpool are the two most successful English clubs and have won 38 league titles between them.

The Reds won most of their titles in the '70s and '80s, whereas, the Red Devils dominated English football under Sir Alex Ferguson in the '90s and in the 2000s.

However, the Merseysiders haven't won a single league title since 1990 and United also haven't tasted the ultimate English glory since the departure of Ferguson in 2013.

Nevertheless, Liverpool can end their long wait for the title this season and they are currently second in the Premier League table. The Reds have played a game less than the leaders Manchester City and will go three points clear of them if they manage to secure all three points at the Old Trafford.

On the other hand, United are currently fourth in the Premier League table and will be aiming to finish the season in the 'top 4'.

The heart of the matter

Solskjaer urged his players to end their Premier League drought soon.

He said (via Sky Sports):

Of course they do feel that pressure. I think all the supporters do and players probably do as well.
"But then we have not won it for a few years and so we want to get back to that. We have to make sure that we don't end up being happy being among the top four.
"If you aim too low and reach your target, then that's more dangerous than aiming too high and missing them.

The Norwegian also believes that the Premier League is the toughest league to win the title.

"It is difficult to win the league here. It is probably the toughest league to win and when you look at it, there are only five or six teams that have won the Premier League. Leicester did it - which was a miracle - before that Blackburn did it, but then there was a few big clubs that have won it."

What's next?

Liverpool and Man United will go up against each other in the Premier League at Old Trafford later today in a game which will have serious implications on this seasons title race.
