West Brom 1-0 Tottenham: 3 Takeaways from the game

West Bromwich Albion v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
West Bromwich Albion beat Tottenham Hotspur at the Hawthorns

Tottenham Hotspur travelled to the Hawthorns to take on relegation-threatened West Brom side hours after Stoke City were relegated from England's top flight after getting beaten at home by Crystal Palace.

The Baggies were rock bottom before the start of play and needed to win both their games and hope those around them fail to do the same if they were to have any chance of surviving in the Premier League for another campaign.

They did their bit on the night as they managed to steal all three points against the side from London owing to a late injury-time winner from the former Spurs man Jake Livermore.

Here are the major takeaways:

#3 Tottenham stung by one of their own

Jake Livermore scored the winner.

Jake Livermore had a forgettable time at White Hart Lane in the white for Tottenham and failed to make any kind of impact on the fans or the management.

The Englishman started his career with the North London outfit for their U-18 side and made his way through the ranks to finally get a call-up to the senior side. But he failed to nail down a starting spot in the team and was sent out on a series of loan moves to Championship sides before finally settling down at Hull City.

Following their exit from the toughest league in the world, Livermore found himself at The Hawthorns who themselves are under the threat of relegation this season.

But the night belonged to the former Spurs man as he won, what could be, a vital 3 points in West Brom's pursuit towards safety.

#2 West Brom have stood up to stern tests this season

Another injury-time winner for the Baggies.

West Brom, who need a miracle to be able to stay up, have managed to nick points off second-placed Manchester United at Old Trafford before coming back from a two-goal deficit to draw against Liverpool at home.

Another gritty performance from the home team was on display as Spurs failed to break down the well-drilled Albion side. It is surprising considering they've struggled to pick up points against teams that are closer to them on the league table.

A stoppage-time winner in the 92nd minute was enough to win all three points against the side currently placed 4th on the table.

#1 Five out of the top 6 have been dismal this season

Tottenham struggled to break down West Brom.

Following United's shock defeat to Brighton last night, Tottenham continued the unfathomable trend of the big wigs of the English game struggling against the minnows. Brighton have also similarly defeated both the North London sides, Arsenal and Spurs, at home.

Apart from the heroics of the Baggies as mentioned earlier, Newcastle have also humiliated both Arsenal and United at the St. James' Park this season. United have also similarly lost to Huddersfield in the League and to Bristol City in the EFL Cup while the Gunners' were thrashed by Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have lost to Burnley, Palace, West Ham, Bournemouth and Watford this season and both Swansea and West Brom have managed to get the better of Liverpool in different competitions this campaign.
