After spending heavily on the likes of Alisson, Fabinho, and Naby Keita last summer, it’s time for Liverpool to plan for the coming transfer window. The summer signings have played a crucial role in Liverpool’s involvement in the Premier League title race. Players like Alisson and Fabinho are already invaluable assets in Jurgen Klopp's squad.

However, with many players close to running out their contracts in July, Klopp will have look in the market for replacements. He will also be looking to try and find players to improve his team and add depth to his squad.

Where does Liverpool need new players?

With Sturridge running down his contract and Origi likely to leave, Liverpool will have to look to add another striker to his squad as a back up for Roberto Firmino. Reports have linked Liverpool, with a move for Leipzig striker Timo Werner to fill in that void. However, that deal does not look likely as Bayern Munich are also interested in the German International. Klopp can put his faith in Liverpool’s academy graduate; Rhian Brewster and try him in pre-season.

Another probable attacking addition to Liverpool’s first team is Harry Wilson. The 21-year old has impressed everyone in his loan spell at Derby County under Frank Lampard and could give attacking depth to Liverpool. He is seen as a long-term replacement for Adam Lallana who has struggled a lot because of injuries. Although Klopp loves Lallana for his work rate and determination, his Liverpool career is unlikely to last long.

If James Milner's refuses to sign a contract, Liverpool can recall Marko Grujic from loan. The Serbian has arguably been Herta Berlin’s best player this season. He has significantly improved in his time in Germany. Grujic was Klopp’s first ever signing for Liverpool and next season, the Anfield faithful might finally get to see him in action.

On the defensive side, Liverpool will need a new center-back. With Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez constantly struggling with injuries, Liverpool needs another dependable defender as they have struggled this season because of it. A lot of times Fabinho has had to deputize at center-back in crucial games. Both James Milner and Jordan Henderson have played at right-back this season when both Alexander Arnold and Joe Gomez were unfit.

Recent links have suggested a move for Ajax superstar Matthis De Ligt to Liverpool, but it is hard to see this move materialize. Someone like Jonathan Tah or even an out-of-favor Mats Hummels could be perfect for Liverpool and Klopp.

Alberto Moreno is another name who is running down his contract and likely to leave the club for free at the end of the season. Klopp will need someone to play as a back up to Andy Robertson. It is likely that academy graduate; Adam Lewis will take that spot. Lewis is a player full of energy and has impressed Jurgen Klopp with consistent performances for Liverpool U-23 this season. His story is similar to Trent Alexander Arnold as he has captained Liverpool in various age groups.

Ultimately, Klopp will not have to go all-out to buy players from the market. He can keep his faith in the Liverpool youth to deliver. Next season miight be a turning point in the careers of Brewster, Lewis, Wilson, and Grujic.
