20-year old Chinese Man paralyzed from waist down for binge-gaming 

What's the story?

In a shocking turn of events, a gamer in China suffered from acute paralysis after spending a reported time of 20 straight hours at an internet cafe in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province of China and had to be rushed to the hospital.

The man, who apparently 'lost sensation from the waist down' entered the internet cafe on Saturday evening and spent the whole time playing a particular game until he had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance on Sunday afternoon.

The internet addiction - which has been dubbed as 'Digital Heroin' - by the Chinese government has been at the helm of social issues in China and many steps have been taken to curb gamers from spending long hours at playing the games such as imposing fines and jail terms.

Heart of the Matter

In recent times, multiplayer games have taken the world by storm and have grabbed the attention of gamers across the world with games such as 'King of Glory', 'Counter-Strike Go' drawing a countless number of games to spend a lot of their time in playing online games.

According to reports, the man, who played for 20 hours straight finally decided to take and break and visit the toilet when he suddenly realized that he could not move the lower part of his body.

Unable to move the lower part of his body, the man had to be stretchered off into an ambulance which ferried him to a nearby hospital.

However, such was the man's commitment to the game that even as he was being stretchered off into the ambulance, he begged his friend to complete the game that he was playing since the previous evening as told by the friend himself.

This incident has come to light following a similar unfortunate accident last year when a 21-year old Chinese woman was blinded in one eye after playing a game on her phone for 24 hours in a row.

What's Next?

With the screams getting louder and louder for eradicating or at least reducing this addiction, China has opened up 'Digital Detox' rehabilitation camps across the country in a bid to educate the youth against the harmful effects of internet addiction.
