Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) have taken up the cause of celebrating the genius (Ralph Baer), who created the first home console our industry witnessed. Baer bid adieu to the world when he passed away last year in December (aged 92) and his memory is being celebrated by awarding him the seventh Pioneer award.

The AIAS serve to promote the cause of bestowing honor on those few indiviuals who have contributed immensely to the industry and have helped nuture it by applying their credentials, talent and ever challenging ideas that brought new technologies to life and changed the way we perceive the field. Rich Hilleman will bear the honor of presenting this award at the 18th D.I.C.E. Awards to be held on 5th Febuary in Las Vegas. Hilleman is also the creative director at Electronic Arts and an estemeed AIAS board member. In a interview Hilleman confessed that Baer and Al truly fit into the definition of the word ‘Pioneer” since it was their creations that brought to life the imagination of many who will remain forever indebted to these geniuses.
