What's the story?

English Championship club Derby County has the fourth bigger transfer budget in the world in the 'Career mode' of FIFA 18.

In case you didn't know...

Championship club Derby County finished ninth in the 2016-17 season of the Championship and are currently 2nd on the points table of Championship, trying to mount a challenge for the title while fighting for automatic promotion to the Premier League as well.

The club has a rich history as they won the English Football League twice in 1970s and even played in Europe in those years. They also won the FA Cup in 1945-46 season.

The heart of the matter

The club has more transfer budget than the likes of La Liga giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona and even more than the cash-rich AS Monaco of Ligue 1. They are just behind three clubs in terms of transfer budgets -- Manchester United (149.9 million pounds), Manchester City (132 million pounds) and Paris Saint Germain (114.4 million pounds) as they themselves have a transfer budget of 105.6 million pounds.

The reason behind this anomaly is Mel Morris. The club's owner recently made a profit of 500 million pounds by investing in the digital game Candy Crush Saga.

What's next?

Now, you can sign the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Coutinho or even Lionel Messi to play in the Championship. Meanwhile, the likes of De Gea, Sergio Ramos or Paul Pogba also command huge transfer fees to move.

Author's take

Derby County fans, who dream of challenging for the Premier League title and Champions League glory can finally live their dream on FIFA 18. They can buy big players and use them to promote the team to the top tier and then compete for the top prizes in World football.
