What's the story?

With FIFA 18's release date edging closer and closer, social media is buzzing with news and updates regarding the game and its players.

One of the most talked about players this year is Liverpool winger Sadio Mane. Following a successful first season at the club, Mane has started this campaign on a positive note, securing August's Player of the Month award for his efforts. EA Sports posted a picture of the star standing with his trophy as well as an FUT card that showed his incredible 93 pace attribute, on their Twitter handle.

The main story, however, can be seen after the image was uploaded to the public eye. Hull City veteran David Meyler was quick to remark on the picture and sent out a comment reading "Disappointed I didn't win!" to which the official EA Sports account managed one of the most savage replies ever with "wrong league mate". Giggles in 3...2...1.

In case you didn't know...

Mane is widely tipped to be the fastest player in the game and with pace stats such as these, his numbers will be tough to crack. Having started the season on a high, much is expected from the pacy Senegalese International for both club and country.

The heart of the matter

The reply is unlike any other seen by the game developers and the healthy banter brought about hilarious reactions from fans all over reddit. Fans chimed in with their approval of EA's savagery and agreed that the reply made sense from every angle.

In case you're wondering what the joke is about, Meyler's club was relegated from the top flight in England at the end of last season and are now in the championship, as a result of which Meyler's chance of winning a trophy is practically nil. EA just highlighted this, but in the most epic of fashion.

What's next?

FIFA 18 will release across all major platforms on 29th September 2017 and the demo is scheduled to hit console networks in later today. Gamers can pre-order the game for more exciting offers.

Author's take

Seeing the lighter side of EA is a refreshing change and poor David Meyler's innocent jab was met with a closed fist by the game developers of FIFA for no reason at all. But who cares, we all love ourselves a bit of healthy, hilarious banter.
