What's the story?

It's bad news for football gaming fans in India who have been eagerly awaiting the launch of popular game FIFA 18, as developers EA Sports has postponed the date of its launch to October 3.

The release date for FIFA 18, which was set for September 29 worldwide, has been postponed to October 3, as announced by the game's exclusive retail partner in the country, Amazon India.

The heart of the matter

However, the FIFA 18 Ronaldo edition, which was available on pre-order, has already been received by a number of users.

The FIFA 18 Ronaldo edition boasts of a number of additional in-game features and download facilities, and is available at a price of Rs 6,000. Independent retailers are, however, set to charge much higher prices for the game.

"More than 90 percent of the customers who pre-ordered will get it on or before the India release date in 2017, setting a new record for deliveries on release date for video games in India. The number of customers to whom it will be delivered on the release date in 2017 will be 10x higher than in 2016. Amazon has already started dispatches much ahead of the planned schedule,” said an Amazon India spokesperson to Gadgets 360.

In case you didn't know...

Despite being released worldwide on September 26, the latest FIFA game has already come under some criticism from PC users, who have complained about difficulties with downloading the game. However, FIFA fixed the glitch soon after.

What's next?

Although a glitch has been found in the PC version of FIFA 18, this is not the case with its Xbox and PS4 versions. Hence, once the game eventually gets released in India, Xbox and PS4 users are unlikely to face much trouble with it. Meanwhile, EA has also taken steps to rid the game of the PC glitch, which will be reassuring for PC users in India.

Author's take

Although no official reason for the postponement has been given, the glitch could have been one cause.

However, another reason could be the fact that the FIFA 18 crack has already been released online. Although India has a relatively large number of FIFA users, a large percentage of them are known to be using the pirated version of the game.
