Right. What if I told you that some of the top football clubs in Germany, England and Spain have been buying up teams and players to wear their kit and represent them in gaming tournaments around the world?
Yes, your read that right. Bundesliga club Wolfsburg was the first European club to tread this path when they signed top German FIFA player Benedikt Salzer back in 2015. Last year, they added another avid FIFA player, Dave Bytheway (who was the runner-up of FIFA Interactive World Cup 2014) to their roster.
If you actually delve deeper, the fact that the football clubs are signing on E-sports players is, in fact, not that surprising. Some reports claim that by 2020 it will have at least 600 million viewers.

Among the other clubs who have signed up E-sports players are Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, West Ham United, Ajax, FC Schalke 04, AS Roma, Valencia and several others. Even 20-time English champion Manchester United were reportedly interested in signing a hot prospect last year.
And it is not only restricted to the FIFA gamers. PSG have a League of Legends team while FC Copenhagen have a Counter-Strike Global Offensive team.
