More details on Mass Effect 4 revealed

Mass Effect 4 will not be available for last-gen consoles

While we now know that a Mass Effect 4 title is currently in development, BioWare and EA have still to release any concrete details about the game. So most of the information on the game has been from leaks and info obtained from people who are involved in the development process. The latest reveal was from a trusted industry insider going by the name of Shinobi602.

The user took to gaming forum NeoGAF recently where he gave an estimated release date for Mass Effect 4:

“From people I’ve talked to close to the thing, it’s still a 2016 release but haven’t yet nailed down deciding between Spring or Fall. EA usually has multiple high-profile releases every year, and with Battlefield 5 targeting Q4 2016, for now until I hear more, I’m assuming earlier than Fall is the target. They did, however, release NFS Rivals and BF4 at the same time, so it could still be the Fall. Of course, delays are always possible with any game, but this thing’s been in development since 2012. It won’t skip next year.”

Combat has been improved as per Senior Development Director

Shinobi602’s comment does have a point, as the game has been in development since 2012, so it is unlikely to be delayed to 2017.

Another interesting reveal is from Senior Development Director, Chris Wynn, who took to Twitter to post about the games combat system. Mass Effect’s combat has always been the games weak spot, but according to Wynn, Mass Effect 4’s combat has been improved: “Combat is looking pretty great in the latest builds. Biotics plus weapons plus powerful hardware is amazing.”

Lastly, Bioware’s Michael Gamble teased that the team is now close to completing “another milestone”. Here is his Twitter post:

While this does not confirm that the game is anywhere close to completion, it’s still seems like a pretty big step towards that goal. This time around, fan favourite Commander Sheppard will not be returning as a playable character.

Bioware has not revealed the timeline or the story of the upcoming game. All we know is that it takes place in the same universe as the previous three games. So whether the game is a prequel or sequel is still to be confirmed.

Mass Effect 4 will be out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
