Nintendo developing new game system dubbed "NX"

Nintendo is developing a new game system dubbed “NX

Nintendo is in the process of developing a new “dedicated game platform” with the codename “NX”. In a recent press conference, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed that the company is currently building what they call a new “game system”. He did not go into the details of this new project though he did mention that they will be sharing more information about it next year. You can check out his announcement below:

“As proof that Nintendo maintains strong enthusiasm for the dedicated game system business, let me confirm that Nintendo is currently developing a dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept under the development codename “NX.” It is too early to elaborate on the details of this project, but we hope to share more information with you next year.”

The announcement was made at a recent press conference where Nintendo discussed its mobile deal and revealed this slide which can be viewed below:

This is a pretty huge announcement to make, and it is unlikely that Nintendo will give out any info about the new system at the upcoming E3. This has led to a ton of speculation on sites like Reddit and Twitter, with many trying to guess what this new “game system” will be.

Immediate guesses are that is probably a successor to one of Nintendo’s current systems. However, this rather unlikely as both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U have been listed in the slide. Some have even suggested that this could be a steaming only companion to the other two systems.

With Club Nintendo closing down later this year, Nintendo’s next goal is to develop a connected platform between all of their current platforms, including the upcoming NX.

“Nintendo, together with DeNA, will jointly develop a new membership service which encompasses the existing Nintendo 3DS and Wii U systems, the new hardware system with a brand-new concept, NX, and smart devices and PCs, and Nintendo will be the primary party to operate this new membership service.”

Here's hoping we hear more about the new NX system in the coming months.
