Turtle Rock has no plans to develop another Left 4 Dead game

Theres a little bit of Left 4 Dead in Evolve

With the highly anticipated 4 versus 1 monster shooter, Evolve, releasing just a two days ago, many fans are now wondering if Turtle Rock will be developing another Left 4 Dead entry. Well Turtle Rocks co-founder, Phil Robb, has dashed those hopes pretty early with his recent statement which revealed that the team is “pretty much done” with the title. So don’t expect a Left 4 Dead release from them anytime soon.

In a recent interview for Evolve, Robb spoke about their upcoming release as well as teams involvement in a possible new Left 4 Dead game. He stated that though they are done with the title for now, there is still a bit of Left 4 Dead in Evolve. The game is a sort of spiritual successor to the L4D series, with ideas that predate the co-op survival shooter. An example of this is the games Tank battles, which is very similar to Evolves 4 versus 1 concept.

“There’s a little bit of Left 4 Dead DNA in Evolve, but it’s a different experience” he said. “If you look back at Left 4 Dead there are some things there we felt kind of ‘proved out’ the theory for Evolve, like the Tank battles being one of them.”

As for the L4D franchise, Robb explained that “It’s Valve’s thing now”, and Turtle Rock has gone off in their own direction.

“I think we’re pretty much done with it. It’s Valve’s thing now” Robb has stated. “We’ve kind of gone off in our own direction. So I’d kinda like to see something new being done with it, and Valve always does great stuff, but it’d be cool to go back to it as just a fan and not a developer. But I doubt you’ll see anything from us”

So while the team has no plans to release another L4D title, there’s still a chance that we might get a new entry for the cooperative survival FPS if Valve decides to pick it up. So the only option for Left 4 Dead fans now is to hope and pray that Valve decides to develop another entry.
