American video game developer Naughty Dog are set to take things to the next level. by integrating Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End with extremely realistic facial animations.

Naughty Dog’s lead animator Josh Scherr shed some more light on Uncharted 4’s graphics in an interview with gaming magazine GamesTM and was quoted as saying:

We have completely renovated the facial animation. In previous games like Uncharted and The Last of Us, the characters were from 90 to 100 “joints” in their faces. Now, all the faces have 300 to 500 joints. This allows us to be more detailed and more faithful, so as to give greater emphasis to what the characters say, and use poses that we could not use before. It allows us to better tell our stories, animate our characters – we hope that all of you will notice that it will be something more than just a technical feature; something that binds the emotions the characters.”

Besides being Naughty Dog’s lead animator Scherr is also on the writing team of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and went on to say that the game’s realistic animations will enable the player to emotionally connect with the character better. Perhaps the move is a wise one as Naughty Dog did reveal that Uncharted 4 will have its fair share of emotional scenes.

Let’s hope the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s end proves to be as breathtaking as its graphics.
