Theo Walcott has been rocked by the news that he is likely to miss the entirety of Arsenal’s pre-season campaign with injury and could well be absent for the beginning of next season, report ESPN.

Walcott suffered torn knee ligaments in Arsenal’s FA Cup third round victory over Tottenham Hotspur back in January and Arsenal’s league form has tailed off since, with some believing the absence of Walcott has been a major factor.

The England winger is keen to get back as quickly as possible, but has warned that he cannot rush an injury as serious as this and could struggle to get himself fully fit in time to take part in next season’s opener.

Walcott told Arsenal’s matchday magazine: “I want to be back quickly of course – but safely too.

“I want to try and be back for the early part of next season. That is the goal, so there will be a lot of hard back work throughout the summer and during the World Cup.

“It has been nearly four months now and my recovery has been on track so far. At the moment I’m working on muscle strength and building muscle in my quad.

“I don’t see any point in being down in the dumps about the injury because it has already happened. There are a lot of people with worse problems in the world.

“I see the consultant soon and hopefully he will give me the thumbs up to push on. I would love to be running in a few weeks.”
