What's the story?

In case you didn't know...

The previous record for the yoga marathon was achieved by Pradnya Patil from Nashik, Maharashtra who had clocked at a duration of 103 hours. Patil set the record when she performed the yoga marathon from June 16 to 20 this year.

The heart of the matter

Kavitha Bharanidaran, a 31-year-old woman from Chennai, has managed to break the Guinness world record for the longest yoga marathon at a yoga event held in Chennai. Kavitha, who is a mother of a three-year-old child, began the yoga marathon early morning on December 23 and broke the record after performing yoga for five days continuously.

She broke the world record time on the fifth day of her marathon on December 28 in the early hours of the night at 02:02 am. Kavitha has not stopped the marathon and is carrying on to create a new world record time for the yoga marathon.

What's next?

Kavitha Bharanidaran's plan for the new record is in progress and she will keep performing yoga continuously until December 30, thus creating a new Guinness World Record timing for the longest yoga marathon in the world.

Author's take

Yoga is a grand old Indian tradition being practised for physical and mental fitness. A world record for the longest marathon goes a long way in promoting the skill on a mainstream stage. It was no mean feat going almost 5 days in a row, and now Kavitha has managed to raise the bar and even extend it further. The fact that she is still performing is mind-boggling, to say the least.
