Windhoek, Nov 1 (IANS) Cricket Namibia announced that it will host one of the oldest cricket clubs in the world, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), from November 3 to 14.
Laurence Pieters, board member of Cricket Namibia (CN) and head of the organisation committee, on Tuesday said the MCC team will help "promote and assist" in the development of cricket in the southern African country.
MCC will arrive in Namibia on Thursday and seven matches are scheduled to be played in Windhoek and Walvis Bay, reports Xinhua.
According to Pieters, the MCC is the oldest cricket club on the planet, founded in 1787 and based at world-renowned Lord's cricket ground in St John's Wood, London.
"The MCC now tours various cricket developing countries in an effort to promote and assist in the development of cricket," said Pieters.
The tour will provide the opportunity for local players to square off against the MCC who will also assist in coaching clinics for locals in Windhoek and Walvis Bay, he added.
Meanwhile, all games will be officiated by former English cricketer Robert Timothy 'Tim' Robinson, who played in 29 Tests and 26 ODIs for England from 1984 to 1989.
