Commonwealth Games medalist Dipa Karmakar was the star of National Games day six, winning two gold medals in Gymnastics, reiterating her dominance over the sport.
The top of the table saw no change as Services extended their lead with 37 gold medals. Maharasthra’s strong last couple of days have seen them leapfrog Haryana to second.
The individual medals tally is still headed by Sajan Prakash, who added another gold medal to his count today. However, Maharashtra swimmer Aakansha Vora is not too far behind with five gold medals, compared to Prakash’s six.
So, let’s have a look at how day six of the National Games panned out.
Gymnastics
Dipa Karmakar from Tripura took centre stage today as she won gold in the vault category, ahead of Pranti Nayak from Madhya Pradesh and B Aruna Reddy from Andhra Pradesh.
Karmakar secured a second gold medal on the day winning the floor exercise category, Aruna Reddy of AP was second and Pranti Nayak finished third.
In the Men’s parallel bars, Uttar Pradesh’s Aditya Singh Rana won the gold medal with compatriot Ashish Kumar finishing a close second. West Bengal’s Pratip Das won the bronze medal.
Water Polo
Services mauled Mahrashtra 18-6 in the Men’s Water Polo final.
Swimming
Sajan Prakash from Kerala won gold in the Men’s 400m freestyle event, setting a meet record of 3:57.16. Silver went to Maharashtra’s Saurabh Sangvekar as Anand A.S rounded up the medal positions.
One of Maharastra’s key performers Aakansha Vora won gold in the women’s 400m freestyle, setting a meet record of 4:32.50. Malavika from Karnataka won silver as Richa Mishra from Madhya Pradesh won the bronze medal.
The 200m medley event saw Madhu P.S win gold, again setting a meet record of 2:08.98, ahead of Aravind M from Karnataka and Sandeep Sejwal from Madhya Pradesh.
Lawn Bowls
Sunil Bahadur from Jharkhand won gold in the Men’s singles event, followed by Prince Kumar Mahato from Bihar in the silver medal position and Mridul Bora from Assam won bronze.
The Men’s Fours event saw Vishwanth Pai, Samit Malhotra, Sanjay Lakhotia and Devesh Srivastava win gold for West Bengal, followed by Rajasthan and Assam.
Women’s Pairs saw the Delhi duo of Manu Kumar Pal and Pinki Pinki take the gold ahead of Shashi Chhabra and Bonani Framjee from Rajasthan. Bihar’s Anwari Khatoon and Sunita Kumari won bronze.
