What's the Story

Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore dropped hints of renaming the Sports Authority of India, today. He said that the word 'Authority' has no relevance in the modern sporting scenario. He even put out the following tweet.

In Case You Didn't Know

Rajyavardhan Rathore is a former Olympic silver medallist in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. After retiring from shooting, he took up a career in politics and joined the BJP. He took over as the Sports Minister from Vijay Goel earlier this year

The Heart of the Matter

The minister assured help to former sports icons of the country, who have been struggling for basic needs of life. He reiterated that his ministry will not waver from their goal -- bringing respect and facility for sportspersons.

"Our mantra is 'Sammaan aur Suvidha' where sportsperson, coaches & fans are at the top of the table. Actions of sports bodies must reflect this," said Rathore, who graced the BSF Half Marathon event at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here today.

In another tweet, he said.

What Next?

Rajyavardhan Rathore congratulated the Indian Hockey team on winning their 3rd Asia Cup title and Kidambi Srikanth for winning the Denmark Open. He also teased a major revamp of the SAI, which included a change of nomenclature. Since he took office, he has moved mountains and went out of his way to help sportspersons in need.

Sportskeeda's Take:

Without a doubt, Major Rathore is highly concerned about the image of sports in India and wishes to do the best that he can to improve it. By supporting athletes from various fields, he is trying to ensure that they get the recognition they deserve. The possible renaming of the SAI, may seem to be a positive step towards a revamp, but change needs to be seen on the inside as well.
