Spree 2016 Day 1: BITS colleges off to a winning start

The day began with some good news for the home crowd as both BITS Goa and its sister campus BITS Hyderabad finished off their respective basketball matches on the winning sides. They won over JECRC and NIT Goa respectively. There was a bit disappointment in table-tennis when BITS Goa lost to COEP by 2-3.

A major crowd stood in the badminton court through the day as it saw a lot of intriguing matches. The excitement was at a whole new level when JMI clashed with JNTU and JNTU won by 2-1. The match between BITS Goa Girls B Team and BITS Hyderabad was filled with huge applauses from the home crowd as well as from the biggest contingent this year. BITS Goa won smoothly by 2-0.

The match was followed by another gripping match between SCT and MIT Manipal ending up with the final score of 2-1 in favor of SCT. COEP lost to JMI and JEC Girls team lost to Xavier’s (Jaipur) with the final score of 2-0 in both games. It was a really good day for all the badminton fans among the crowd.

Meanwhile, BITS Goa kept its winning spree on in cricket as well by winning the match against Xavier’s (Jaipur) by 10 runs in a thrilling game. In the next match, much to the disappointment of the crowd, BITS Hyderabad lost to SIMS by a margin of 52 runs.

In carrom, BITS Hyderabad sadly faced two consecutive defeats from BITS Goa and COEP.

Coming to the one of the most awaited events - football, the defending champions, Chowgule college won all its matches with margins as huge as 6-1 and against teams as good as the Acropolis Institute. However, Acropolis managed to revive it position on the table with a 5-1 win over SCT. The day came to end with more good news for the home crowd as BITS FC Boys teams won 2-0 against DAIICT.

After all the sports were done, the performances for the first night were all set. First it was a professional skateboard stunt team ‘Holystoked’, which was followed by a professional footballer Tejas, who entertained the audience with his insane tricks and his chemistry with a football.
