Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen has announced his retirement from football at the end of this season. The striker who rose to fame after he scored a magnificent solo goal during the 1998 World Cup against Argentina, lies 7th in the Premier League all-time top scorers list with 150 goals in 323 Premier League appearances. (File Photo)

2. Birthday boy Herath spins Sri Lanka to series win:

Rangana Herath celebrated his 35th birthday with a career-best 7-89 as Sri Lanka clinched the series against Bangladesh with a comfortable seven-wicket win in the second and final Test.

4. India among six nations shortlisted for 2018 Hockey World Cup:

5. Newcastle slam FA over lack of McManaman action:

Newcastle United expressed their “disappointment” Tuesday with both the FA and Wigan chairman Dave Whelan after the governing body said Callum McManaman would escape disciplinary action over his tackle on Magpies’ full-back Massadio Haidara.

6. Denver beats OKC, wins 13th straight game:

Ty Lawson scored 25 points, Andre Miller had 20 points and nine assists and the Denver Nuggets beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 114-104 Tuesday night to win a 13th straight game. Kevin Durant had 34 points and Russell Westbrook chipped in 25 for Oklahoma City, which lost at home for just the fifth time this season.

7. Pennetta puts herself in Serena’s path at Miami:

Italy’s Flavia Pennetta booked herself a second-round clash with World No. 1 Serena Williams at the Miami Masters after a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Swede Johanna Larsson.
