Frustration can be best described as something that tries your patience, causing annoyance and pushes you up against a wall. I have always been curious about those who are without doubt very talented and have everything going for them and than throwing it away for no rhyme or reason. Frustrating all their near and dear ones.
The world of sports is full of such examples. My list is generic in nature with few notable individuals. And mostly cricket related plus a few other players and teams. It’s as I see it and in no particular order. Difference of opinion is guaranteed and comments welcome.

The HI vs IHF and Sports ministry controversy aside, even die hard hockey fans have given up all hope on Hockey. My generation has been flattered by the Hockey team numerous time in past 2 decades only to be deceived shortly after. Every famous victory is followed up a shameful defeat. When the 8 time champions failed to even qualify for Olympics, it lost even its most ardent fans. Sentimental amongst us still give an occasional Chak De cry but hope is all but lost. Its in a demise for so long that the once unbeatables are not even in the top league any more. There is no stemming this rot

She achieved what no other Female Tennis Player in India ever had. Her glamorous outfits, cool attitude was a refreshing change for a Nation short of Non Cricketing heroes. She became the darling of the masses with her exploits on the court and reached a stage where she could rub shoulders with the best. And this is where she fell woefully short. Inconsistent and prone to injuries, she keeps on losing in second or at best third round every time to much lesser ranked players. Her marriage to Pakistani cricketer Shoib Mallik and the drama preceding that did no good to her falling popularity and she has already been termed as a Has Been Story.

The enfant terrible of Indian Cricket is an obscenely talented man. A truly gifted cricketer he became apple of all eyes in his very first tournament. Indian Cricket was going through a tough time post Match Fixing era and in him we saw better days ahead for Indian Cricket . Alas he would perform in an on and off way and was shown the door a few years later. He came back with a vengeance and for some months it seemed he has found his real calling. On his day there was no stopping him. He brought flair and glamour on the field and public just loved him. He seems to have lost his way in last one year and has again at a point where his place in team is not sure. His off field activities has been widely reported. There’s no questioning his abilities but it’s up to him to prove if he has the right attitude to excel.

This breed, when they come they announce themselves to the world in some style and than fade off even faster than funds for Common wealth Games. The list is long and endless. They all seem to lose their fizz in no time. No one looks fit enough to last an entire series. With WC looming large we have not one bowler who looks ready. The always injured Zaheer, Nehra, Sreesanth , Ishant, Munaf, RP Singh, Vinay Kumar, Mithun and Irfan whose poor form with ball cost him his place in Indian line up and the Indian Cricket much more.
Ajit Agarkar:
The bowler who was fastest to 50 wickets in ODI’s played for over a decade and still made the same mistakes in his last international Matches which he used to make in his first few matches. Two good balls, two beautiful deliveries and two dollies that even Danny Morrison would have carted out of park if was lucky enough to face him, was par for course for him. He was one incorrigible player who never became responsible. In spite of his wicket taking abilities he was not feared by opposing side and earned little respect among Indian fans. He is still active in the game and considering the no. of times he has made his come back you can never rule him out of contention though it looks highly improbable now.

He is in danger of becoming the Agarkar of batting. He has been given umpteen chances to redeem himself. Much like Agarkar he refuses to learn. Greats like Sachin and Dravid have rated him highly and declared him as the future star. While his talent may be exceptional his application of it is not. He has been given along run perhaps due to recommendations by the greats. But how long is the question. Time is running out and he may realize the bitter truth of Perform and Perish the hard way.

He has two triple centuries to his credit, has an average to rival Sachin and Dravid. Is a handy bowler too as he recently proved. But it’s his ability to get himself out while attempting most outrageous shot at the most innocuous delivery at a time when even the bowlers have surrendered that makes his dismissal one of the most exasperating things to watch in world cricket. Why attempt a Six when you are at 99, 195 or 295? Yeah we know u play like this. It’s your natural style and this is what makes watching you bat so pleasurable. But no you will not lose a single fan of yours if you control your urge at some points.

Any Non cricketing hero is exalted to Demi God status and compared with Money hungry Cricketers, but when time comes we stand in line and brave odds to watch IPL relegating the Archers, Athletes, Boxers, Weight lifters, Shooters and others to the margins as usual.
