Greek defender Georgios Tzavellas scored a sensational 73 metre goal in yesterday’s Bundesliga game against FC Schalke 04 at the Arena auf Schalke. Tzavellas was actually looking to play the long ball to striker Theofanis Gekas, but it beat Gekas and Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer to go into the net.
The old record holder was Klaus Allofs for a 70 metre goal for FC Cologne against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 1986.
Not the best of goals, but an interesting one. Have a look:
