About Linz Open 2024

Linz Open 2024 Introduction

The Upper Austria Ladies Linz Open is one of the most awaited WTA tournaments that is played after the Australian Open. Formerly sponsored by Generali Gruppe, it is a WTA 500 tournament that will be held at the Design Center in Linz, Austria, from January 29, 2024, to February 4, 2024.



The 33rd edition of the tournament will feature the top-ranked players in the singles and doubles category. Some well-known champions of the tournament include Karolina Pliskova, Petra Kvitova, Angelique Kerber, and Aryna Sabalenka.



The tournament will have 28 final players in a single draw and 16 final teams in doubles draw. The total prize money for the tournament will be $922,573. Each singles and doubles category winner will receive 500 points each after winning the title.


Linz Open History

Organized by the ITF, the Linz Open was first held in 1987 in Wels, Austria, with a prize money of $10,000. From 1991 onwards, the tournament came into the category of the WTA Tour, which lies at the Tier V level. It was promoted to Tier III-Level in 1993 and Tier II level in 1998. In 2009, the tournament was named the WTA International Tournament and later promoted to WTA 250 in 2021 as per tournament nomenclature.


The scheduling again changed in 2023, and the tournament was organized in October instead of February. However, in 2024, the tournament was upgraded to a WTA 500 event. The Linz Open was played on the indoor hard courts. Anastasia Potapova is the defending champion in the singles category, and Natela Dzalamidze and Viktoria Kuzmova were the defending champions in the doubles category.


Manuele Maleeva Fragniere, Lindsay Davenport, and Ana Ivanovic have won the tournament the most number of times in the singles category. Nathalie Tauziat and Johanna Larsson have won the tournament the most number of times in the doubles category. Other prominent winners include Coco Gauff, Justin Henin, and Maria Sharapova.
