The Mexican Grand Prix is a Formula One Race held at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. It first appeared as a championship event in 1963-1970 and then from 1986-1992. The Grand Prix returned in 2015 at the Mexico City circuit.
Racing History
The Mexican Grand Prix has not been a regular fixture on the Grand Prix calendar throughout history, Ever were first made from 1963 to 1970 to hold the Grand Prix but after a successful period of 8 years, the Mexican Grand Prix was shelved. Another unsuccessful attempt followed after an extended run of 7 years of conducting the Grand Prix. The Grand Prix returned in 2015 and has been a permanent fixture since. With Sergio Perez on the grid, spectators have filled the stands in anticipation of something great from the local hero.
The track has produced some great action every time the F1 circus has reached the circuit. The very first race on the circuit in 2015 was won by Nico Rosberg. The 2016 race saw drama late in the race between Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo.
Lewis Hamilton would ultimately win the race.
The 2017 race saw drama yet again, this time at the start as Title contenders Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton would tangle with each other at the start, handing Max Verstappen the win. Verstappen would then dominate the weekend in 2018 to win the race while 2019 would see Lewis Hamilton in his all-conquering Mercedes cruise to yet another win.
Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are the most successful drivers on this track with 2 wins for both of them while Mercedes has 3 wins on this revamped track as compared to Red Bull with 2 wins.
The race in the 2020 season was Canceled due to Covid-19 restrictions. In 2021 the race would be held on 31st October 2021.
