The UVA Premier League T20 will be the harbinger of cricket in Sri Lanka as it is supposed to precede the annual Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL). It is a breath of fresh air for cricket fans as the sport returns to the island nation from June 29.
The tournament will be short in terms of days but promises entertainment from big Sri Lankan superstars like Tillekaratne Dilshan, Ajantha Mendis, Farveez Maharoof and Thilan Thushara to name a few.
A total of 4 teams - Monaragala Hornets, Wellawaya Vipers, Badulla Sea Eagles and Unilions Mahiyanganaya, led by each of the aforementioned cricketers respectively will compete in the tournament. Each of the teams will play the other three teams twice before the knockout stages.
After the double round-robin stage, the team with most points will reach the Sri Lanka UVA Premier League T20 Final. The fourth-placed team will be knocked out while the second and third-placed teams will contest in the Eliminator.
The winner of the Eliminator will then move on to play in the Final on July 5.
The 12 round-robin games of the UVA Premier League T20 2020 will be played in 6 days with the first game at 11:00 IST and the second one at 14:30 IST from 29 June 2020 to 4 July 2020. The Eliminator will be played on 5 July at 11:00 IST followed by the big Final at 14:30 on the same day.
