Indian ace golfer Anirban Lahiri’s card for the 2016 PGA Tour has been officially confirmed at the end of the Web.com Final Series. The 28-year old who is currently preparing for the all-important President’s Cup beginning in a few days time in Incheon, will be only the third Indian to earn the prestigious PGA Tour card after Arjun Atwal and Jeev Milkha Singh, reports NDTV Sports.

The Bangalore-based golfer who is part of the International team for the upcoming President’s Cup, narrowly finished in the Top 25, even though he missed the last two events of the four-event final. A total of 50 cards are given out at the end of the Web.com Tour Final Series.

Lahiri was 16th in the Finals list after removing six players, who had already ensured their card by finishing in Top-25 of the regular season, which ended before four-event Finals and in the process, earned his card and status for the PGA Tour next year.

The Indian ace was earlier named in the President’s Cup squad, becoming the first Indian to feature for the International team in the tournament. Lahiri, who is the winner of 2 Asia-European Tour events at Malaysian Open and Hero Indian Open, will be looking to come good when his International team will face a strong US side in the President’s Cup.

"I felt I had done the job after the second event", Lahiri said in Incheon.

Lahiri became only the third Indian to earn the PGA Tour card after Arjun Atwal had created history by becoming the first player born in India to become a member of, and later win a tournament on the US-based PGA Tour in 2010. Jeev Milkha Singh joined Atwal in the category and later held the PGA Tour card between 2008-2010.

On hearing the news about Lahiri earning a PGA Tour card, Jeev Milkha Singh congratulated the golfer and felt the sport in India was heading in the right direction. "Congratulations to Anirban for achieving what is always a professional golfer's dream - that is playing on the PGA Tour. His performances this year have been brilliant. And now he is there for President's Cup. He is setting new standards and he is great for Indian golf", he said.
