Hero Women's Professional Golf Tour: Amandeep takes lead on opening day

Rookie Amandeep Drall carded 2 over 74 in windy conditions to grab the lead on Day 1 of the 13th leg of the Hero Women's Professional Golf Tour at the Coimbatore Golf Club on Wednesday.

Trailing her in the second position by one stroke is Delhi's Vani Kapoor at the Rs.5 lakh event which will culminate on August 7.

Amandeep, who is chasing her second professional title, had an indifferent start as her first stroke went into hazard which resulted into a double bogey on the first hole followed by a bogey on the second. Her lone birdie in her front nine came on the seventh.

The Panchkula youngster played with much more control in the latter half, carding two birdies on the 12th and 14th with an equal number of bogeys on the 10th and 16th. Her total of three birdies was the maximum by any player on the day.

Vani dropped four shots

Order of Merit leader Vani had an off day. She dropped four shots on the third, sixth, seventh and 12th with a lone birdie on the fifth. She finished with a score of 3 over 75 to end at the second position.

Kapurthala's Gursimar Badwal, Pune's Shweta Galande and Chandigarh's Saaniya Sharma are tied third with identical scores of 5 over 77.

Gursimar played a birdie-less round with three bogeys on the third, eighth and 12th and a double on the seventh. Shweta's round consisted of a lone birdie on the 15th along with six bogeys on the third, ninth, 10th, 13th, 16th and 17th. Saaniya struggled to get any sort of momentum going and her error prone round included five bogeys on the third, seventh, eighth, ninth and 14th.

Delhi's Ankita Tiwana returned with a score of 6 over 78 to finish sixth. Ankita carded two birdies on the third and 15th while dropping shots on the first, second, fourth, fifth, seventh and 13th along with a double bogey on the eighth.

Kolkata's Neha Tripathi carded a birdie on the eighth and five bogeys on the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh in the front nine while in the back nine she had a bogey on the 16th along with two double bogeys on the 13th and 18th. She had a lone birdie on the 15th to end in seventh with a score of 8 over 80.

Jaipur's Afshan Fatima and Delhi's Ayesha Kapur are tied eighth with identical scores of 11 over 83.

The tour comprises 19 legs.
