Monday finish awaits Day, Noren after epic play-off
Jason Day and Alex Noren are set for a Monday finish to determine the winner of the Farmers Insurance Open after bad light prevented the pair from completing their thrilling play-off.
Playing in rapidly fading light, former world number one Day and Swede Noren birdied the par-five 18th hole three times in a sudden-death playoff at Torrey Pines on Sunday.
Australian Day (70) and Noren (73) also shared pars on the 16th and 17th, forcing play to spill over into Monday.
The sudden-death playoff will resume at 11:00 local time.
Ryan Palmer (72) was also in the play-off after the three players finished regulation at 10 under, but the American was eliminated on the first additional hole.
Palmer is assured a share of second place, having originally made the playoff.
Day is searching for his first win since the 2016 Players Championship, while Noren – a five-time European Tour victor – is trying to claim his maiden PGA Tour event.
J.B. Holmes shot a final-round even-par 72 to finish fourth at nine under.
He moved up the leaderboard on Saturday with a seven-under 65, including eight birdies in his last nine holes.
Keegan Bradley eagled the 15th and birdied the par-five 18th to jump into solo fifth at eight under.
Bradley bogeyed holes 12-14, but turned his day back around with the late charge.
Charles Howell III and first-round leader Tony Finau finished in a tie for sixth, three shots off the pace.
Finau struggled over the weekend with back-to-back 73s. Howell shot a three-under 69 to collect his fifth top-20 finish this season on Sunday.
All eyes were on 14-time major champion Tiger Woods this week, making his first PGA Tour start since last year's event, while making his first cut since 2015.
Former world number one Woods posted a 72 on Sunday to finish tied for 23rd at three under.
The American veteran shot two under over the weekend to better his position by 40 spots.
Woods is next expected to play the Genesis Open in February at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
