#5 Justin Rose

The 2 time major champion is very much a feel player with good swing dynamics. He relies a lot on tempo and Trackman numbers as a reference point for his golf swing. Over the years, Rose has become known for his above average length off the tee and strong approaches from within 150 yards.

He does a great job of rotating away from the ball on his way back while staying centered over the ball and getting a lot of width at the top of his backswing. Because of his good position at the top, he can get through the ball without being stuck and create a big extension. His textbook extension through impact is what gives him the added distance.

A big, full finish with the weight fully forward is the icing on the cake of Rose's powerful action.

Rose has a tendency of missing the ball on the left and to eliminate that he likes to stay over the ball for as long as possible during the swing.

#4 Jason Day

The Australian recently gave up the title of the No.1 golfer in the world and his back troubles in the last few months have hindered his chances at a lot of key events. Having said that, Jason Day possesses one of the most powerful swings in golf. He creates immense power through rotation of his torso - back and forth during the swing. He does a phenomenal job of creating speed while keeping his backswing compact.

Again, like Rose, he gets in to a really strong position at the top and is able to free wheel it from there owing to his lower body and core stability. Jason works hard on his fitness in the gym so that he can keep making those high speed swings without injury.

Jason has a very quite head and a great athletic posture during his swing which are great qualities. To go along, he makes minimal lateral body shift through the transition. Those qualities are what make him a contender in most of the events he plays.

#3 Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy has worked incredibly hard on his fitness over the last few years. As a result, he has seen a dramatic rise in his distance off the tee and is now one of the longest hitters in the world.

Rory does a great job of coiling and uncoiling through the ball. McIlroy along with his coach, Michael Bannon works on finishing his back swing as soon as his shoulders have stopped rotating so that his arms are not moving back as he starts his downswing. He also says that he likes to have the left arm as straight as possible and put himself in a position to turn through the ball without having to worry about the clubhead position.

McIlroy keeps his hands slightly ahead of the normal tour position at address but creates tremendous width on the way back. He drives his legs incredibly well through the ball and has great balance to complement that.

Rory uses the ground and snaps his hips through impact in a singular manner. It's a beautiful action that allows the 5'9" McIlroy to launch it.

McIlroy is riding high on confidence as he will look to break his major championship deadlock of two seasons. He won the 2016 FedEx Cup in an emphatic manner by holing out from the fairway with just two holes left to play in regulation.

#2 Adam Scott

Adam Scott had a pretty good 2016 where he won twice on the PGA Tour and had several other good finishes. Gifted physically with power and a tall structure, Adam Scott’s swing looks effortless and has a great rhythmn to it when he’s swinging well.

Scott’s swing is a major championship winning swing with a good foundation and strong basics. He has great posture and alignment with respect to the target and can produce a towering ball flight with his irons.

He has a near perfect takeaway with the club shaft parallel to the ground. From there, he makes a full turn of the upper body against the lower body. On his way down, he maintains his spine angle very well and his strikes are as crisp as they come.

#1 Louis Oosthuizen

Coached by Pete Cowen, the South African has, according to even most tour players, the best swing on tour. 4 key components of his swing are reliability, efficiency, flexibility and innovation.

He adds that he practices with one aim in mind: to be able to swing it the same way everytime which helps in alleviating pressure in clutch situations. He focuses on not allowing the clubhead to get too far outside of his hands on the way back so that the clubhead can then follow the hands down on the same line.

Oosthuizen is very visually active on the golf course, he likes to see a lot of different shots no matter what the lie, stance or situation is. If he feels like he can pull it off, he goes for it more often than not. Knowing that, it’s not so hard to go back and see how he pulled a lot of miraculous shots off during the Open championship week in 2011.
