Giants sign wide receiver Shepard
The New York Giants have signed free agent wide receiver Russell Shepard, the team announced on Tuesday.
Shepard had posted Monday on Instagram that he was joining New York's roster.
Shepard signed a three-year, $10.5million contract with the Panthers in March 2017. He registered 17 catches for 202 yards and a touchdown last season but asked for his release from Carolina earlier this month after the team reportedly requested he take a pay cut.
Shepard began his NFL career with the Buccaneers. He accumulated 432 receiving yards and three touchdowns over four seasons in Tampa Bay. He also contributed on special teams.
The Giants finished 2017 with a 3-13 record. They fired coach Ben McAdoo in week 13 and replaced him with former Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur following the season.
