The Minnesota Vikings have appointed Philadelphia Eagles quarterback coach John DeFilippo as their new offensive coordinator.

DeFilippo replaces Pat Shurmur as Vikings OC, Shurmur having left to take over as head coach of the New York Giants.

The 39-year-old DeFilippo previously received head coaching interviews with the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals, earning considerable plaudits after serving as the head of an extremely successful Eagles quarterback room.

Under the stewardship of DeFilippo, Carson Wentz became an MVP candidate and, after he was lost for the season to an ACL injury, backup Nick Foles led the Eagles to a first Super Bowl title, shredding the Vikings and the New England Patriots in the process.

"We are very excited to add John to our staff. We took our time with the search and made sure we left no stone unturned to get the right fit," Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said in a statement.

"He has a track record of success and has proven to be a great teacher. We feel John will have good chemistry with our team and we are all eager to get to work."
