Rio Olympics 2016: France and Croatia drawn in same handball group

France and Croatia will resume their famous men's handball rivalry at this year's Olympic Games in Rio after they were drawn in the same group.

Between them, the European handball heavyweights have won four of the past five Olympic gold medals. France also beat Croatia in the final of the 2009 world championships in Croatia, reports Xinhua.

Also drawn in Group A were Argentina, Denmark, Qatar and Tunisia.

In the women's event, hosts Brazil - winners of the 2013 world championship - were drawn in Group A on Friday alongside Angola, Montenegro, Norway, Romania and Spain.

The Future Arena at Olympic Park is currently staging an Olympic handball test event comprising four local teams.

The handball schedule:

Men's competition: Group A: Argentina, Denmark, France, Qatar, Croatia, Tunisia

Group B: Germany, Egypt, Brazil, Poland, Sweden, Slovenia

Women's competition: Group A: Angola, Brazil, Montenegro, Norway, Romania, Spain

Group B: Argentina, France, Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, South Korea
