Beighton Cup: Roushan Kumar's double hat-trick powers SAI to a 10-0 walkover of Entally AC

SAI were big winners on day 1 of The All India Beighton Cup

A double hat-trick by Sports Authority of India’s Roushan Kumar propelled his side to a 10-0 thrashing of Entally AC in the first match of the Breighton Cup. The tournament is being held in the SAI Ground in Kolkata. Nadim Hussain, Prabir Toppo, Anand Champia and Sanjay Paswan scored a goal apiece for SAI as well. (Report courtesy of Business Standard)

The second game saw East Coast Railway beating Police AC by three goals to finish 4-1 on top. Dilip Karketta’s brace was augmented by David Minz and Joseph Toppo, who scored one goal each. Pritam Mistry was the lone goalscorer for Police AC.

Assam Regiment were victorious against AG Bengal in the third match of the day. Ramen Kumar Singh, M. Chittranajan Singh, T.H. Banti Singh and Chandmoni Boro made up Assam’s four goals while Varinder Singh Gill scored AG Bengal’s only goal.

The Beighton Cup is one of the oldest hockey tournaments in India, with its origins dating back to 1895. It was organised by the Bengal Hockey Association and was initally held in the Mohan Bagan Ground in the Maidan in Kolkata. The tournament has had huge names from the sphere of hockey associated with it, including Indian legend Dhyan Chand, Leslie Claudius, Vece Paes and Gurbux Singh. All of them won Olympic medals for India in hockey.
