WASHINGTON (AFP) –

Riley Sheahan, pictured in 2010, the Red Wings’ top pick in the 2010 NHL draft, was reportedly wearing a purple Teletubbies costume when he was pulled over on a drunk driving charge in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Riley Sheahan, the Red Wings’ top pick in the 2010 NHL draft, was reportedly wearing a purple Teletubbies costume when he was pulled over on a drunk driving charge in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

A copy of the arrest report obtained by Michigan news website MLive.com showed that a breathalyzer test indicated the 20-year-old Canadian had a blood-alcohol content of .30 when he was stopped for driving the wrong way on October 29.

That’s almost four times the legal limit and two-times the threshold to be charged under Michigan’s “super-drunk” law, which carries stiffer penalties than an ordinary drunk-driving charge.

MLive reported that Sheahan was also carrying the identification of Brendan Smith, another Detroit prospect who is expected to join the team when the NHL lockout ends.

According to the police report obtained by the website, Sheahan was also charged with providing police with false information.

Sheahan pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on November 6. If convicted he faces up to 180 days in jail.

The purple costume on the Teletubbies’ children programme belongs to Tinky Winky.
