5 Talking Points from this week's IMPACT Wrestling (2nd February 2021): Mahabali Shera and ODB return

IMPACT Wrestling had plenty of surprise returns this week!
IMPACT Wrestling had plenty of surprise returns this week!

The latest episode of IMPACT Wrestling was an entertaining two-hours of wrestling programming with the two surprise returns that have certainly gotten the fans buzzing. Brian Myers and Eddie Edwards continued their feud this week, with both of them finding tag partners for themselves for a possible tag team clash at IMPACT Wrestling No Surrender.

On the other hand, the women's division saw the return of a four-time Knockouts Champion who can prove to be a credible threat to Deonna Purrazzo's title reign. IMPACT X-Division Champion TJP and Rohit Raju wrestled a fantastic match that ended with another surprise return that helped Raju beat the champion.

In the main event, IMPACT World Champion Rich Swann teamed up with Tommy Dreamer to take on Moose and Chris Bey. While the match was fun, it lacked in the excitement factor and thus turned out to be underwhelming.

That said, let's look at the latest developments from this week's IMPACT Wrestling. Do share your thoughts in the comments section below.

#5 Moose and Chris Bey defeat IMPACT World Champion Rich Swann and Tommy Dreamer in the main event of the night

Self-proclaimed TNA World Champion Moose and Chris Bey faced off against IMPACT World Champion Rich Swann and Tommy Dreamer in the main event of this week's episode. While most of the IMPACT Wrestling main event segments in recent weeks have been quite talked about, this one was relatively short on surprises and instead focussed on projecting Moose as the most dangerous threat to Swann's title reign yet.

IMPACT Wrestling creative has done a commendable job of booking Chris Bey in recent weeks. He's a vital player of the company, and they are wisely putting him in the main event segments where he'll get to learn from the veterans of the business. As for Tommy Dreamer, it's not a good sign that he's main eventing a big IMPACT Wrestling pay-per-view at this point in his career.

Yes, he's a legend, and the championship match is a gift by Swann for his 50th birthday, but this should ideally be the main event of a special episode and not of a pay-per-view. It renders the match predictable, as virtually no one believes Dreamer would walk out as the champion.

Even the company, for that matter, hasn't depicted him as a threat to the title. The focus has been on Moose and his eventual clash with Swann. However, the misunderstanding in the final stages of the match between Dreamer and the champion did signal a heated collision that could take place on next week's episode.

#4 Eddie Edwards aligns with Matt Cardona on IMPACT Wrestling to take down Brian Myers and Hernandez

During last week's IMPACT Wrestling, Eddie Edwards took on Brian Myers in a one-on-one clash. However, the match ended on a shocking note when Edwards bit Myers' forehead to bust him open and got himself disqualified. On this week's episode, Myers came out to the ring and laid down a challenge to Edwards. Just when the latter showed up to take his opponent down, Hernandez showed up and began brutalizing Edwards, aligning with Myers.

Myers' former tag team partner from WWE, Matt Cardona, made the save for Edwards and took down the two. By the looks of it, we are probably heading towards a tag team match between the two teams at IMPACT Wrestling No Surrender. As good as this match would be, this story seems inconsistent at best.

Coming out of the Barbed Wire Massacre against Sami Callihan at Hard to Kill, Edwards looked on the verge of losing his sanity, further evidenced by last week's actions. But here we have him tagging a new face and taking down a heel duo. Or are we heading towards a heel turn from Edwards, who will betray Cardona and kickstart a feud?

#3 Josh Alexander registers a momentum boosting victory over Madman Fulton on IMPACT Wrestling

After a hard-fought battle against Madman Fulton, where he was brutalized throughout the match, Josh Alexander came up with a momentum boosting victory on IMPACT Wrestling.

During the match, Fulton's partner Ace Austin was at the ringside and was seemingly enjoying the beatdown. The feud began a couple of weeks before on IMPACT Wrestling, where Austin and Fulton attacked Alexander backstage. This would ideally lead to a singles bout between Austin and Alexander at No Surrender, which has all the potential to be the best on the whole pay-per-view.

However, the most intriguing part was Matt Cardona's absence. Last week, it looked like the two have allied, but there was no follow-up on today's episode. Moreover, Cardona has instead allied with Eddie Edwards, which renders the last week's developments useless.

Nevertheless, the possible match at No Surrender would be the opportunity to finally thrust Alexander into the main event scene, as he's proven time and again how valuable of a player he is for IMPACT Wrestling.

#2 ODB returns on IMPACT Wrestling, takes down Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo

Former four-time IMPACT Knockouts Champion ODB made her return to IMPACT Wrestling and instantly set her sight on the championship gold. Before she appeared, Susan took on Jordynne Grace in a singles bout. After a fun back-and-forth battle, Grace came up victorious. Post-match, Deonna Purrazzo, Susan, and Kimber Lee ganged up on Grace and Jazz and begun a beatdown.

However, the IMPACT Wrestling legend showed up and decisively took down all three. Considering ODB is back for good, several potential rivalries are waiting for her, including the one with the trio of Purrazzo, Lee, and Susan.

In a backstage segment, Jazz and Grace asked her about her status with the company. Though she didn't make it clear, ODB is seemingly back for good, at least for the foreseeable future. Apart from targeting the title, she can help in the growth of IMPACT Wrestling's women's division, which though stacked, has a lot of talent that is still green and would surely improve with a legend lending them a hand.

#1 Mahabali Shera returns to IMPACT Wrestling, aligns with Rohit Raju to reform The Desi Hit Squad

IMPACT X-Division Champion TJP took on Rohit Raju in a non-title match this week. As expected, the two tore the house down with their efforts. Instead of employing his usual aerial offense, TJP worked a more mat-based offense while Raju complimented him with a stiffer style.

In the final stages of the match, the champion got under the ring to hide but came across a returning Mahabali Shera, who made the distraction and allowed Raju to pick up the victory. The Desi Hit Squad is back, and TJP's title reign on IMPACT Wrestling is now in real danger of coming to an abrupt end, as the odds are stacked against him.

The champion will likely put his title on the line at No Surrender, with Shera being at Raju's corner. TJP aligning with Fallah Bahh seems like an intriguing and a real possibility. They were terrific together, and it makes sense for them to align at this juncture.
