After having failed to win their first match against Patna Pirates in what was billed as the revenge match between the two finalists of last year, U Mumba will go all out to win their encounter starting in a little while at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium.

U Mumba have languished at 4th and 5th position for most part of the season and would like to run up to a place in top 4 with a win here against the Pirates. A look at their past matches tell that U Mumba is regaining the form that had made them the dominant team that they were in their first three seasons.

Patna Pirates, however, recovered brilliantly from their two back to back losses to gain a crucial away win against Bengaluru Bulls in the last match. Although, Rajesh Mondal was at his electrifying best in their last tie, the team would be hoping though that Pardeep Narwal regains his supreme touch ahead of the business end of the tournament.

The defence of Patna Pirates looks as strong as ever and with Surjeet Narwal and Mondal not letting Narwal’s absence felt, the team will back itself to win its third consecutive tie against U Mumba. The team’s record against U Mumba is continuously improving as they didn’t have a single win over the team before last season, but have three now. U Mumba will be keen to add to their five wins over the Pirates.

For U Mumba, Rishank Devadiga’s form will be a matter of concern as well as that of Jeeva Kumar. Luckily, for the team, Anup Kumar has gotten better with each passing match and has found great support in Rakesh Kumar, who was a Patna Pirate till last year. Suresu Kumar too has shown sparks of brilliance, which is a good news for the Mumbai outfit.

Four out U Mumba’s five victories have come in the last five games and the team will be looking to keep its 100% win record at Kolkata intact. Patna Pirates, on the other hand, have six wins out of 8 games and have clearly looked the team to beat in the tournament. The swiftness with which they overcame Narwal’s form issue shows that the team is functioning as a well oiled machine and is determined to defend their title.

If their showing of last and this season is taken into account, anyone would agree that Patna Pirates is fast rising up as the dominant power of Pro Kabaddi, a position that has been traditionally enjoyed by U Mumba. And that’s what provides this match a whole lot of added context
