Pro Kabaddi 2019: Top 5 raiders from the Delhi Leg

VIVO Pro Kabaddi 2019 has reached its mid-stage after the completion of the sixth leg at Thyagaraj Sports Complex, Delhi. The hosts Dabang Delhi K.C. turned out to be the most successful team at home this season, winning all of their matches in the home leg.

Dabang Delhi registered victories over Bengaluru Bulls (33-31), UP Yoddha (36-27), U Mumba (40-24), and Patna Pirates (38-35) to remain unbeaten at their home and cap off the most successful home leg by any team so far in Pro Kabaddi 2019.

The hosts Dabang Delhi K.C. and Haryana Steelers impressed the most with four and two wins respectively. Besides, teams such as the Telugu Titans, Puneri Paltan, Bengal Warriors, UP Yoddha and Bengaluru Bulls also registered one victory each to their name.

Yet, big teams like season one champions Jaipur Pink Panthers, U Mumba, Gujarat Fortune Giants, Tamil Thalaivas, and Patna Pirates failed to obtain a win in the Delhi leg.

After the culmination of a memorable week, let's take a look at the top five raiders from the Delhi leg.


#5 Vikash Kandola (Haryana Steelers)

Matches Played - 2, Total Raid Points - 18

Vikash Kandola has emerged as a stalwart in the offense for Haryana Steelers this season. His efforts have led Haryana to be a dominant-side this season as the Steelers have seven wins out of 11 games.

Kandola scored a Super 10 against the consistent defense unit of Bengal Warriors with 11 raid points to his name and his efforts proved to be vital as Haryana defeated Bengal Warriors in a tight encounter by a 36-33 margin.

Haryana Steelers beat the Gujarat Fortune Giants 41-25 in their next encounter where the raiding duo of Kandola and Prashant Kumar Rai troubled Gujarat's mighty defense unit. Kandola scored seven raid points, including with a bonus point as he found decent support through Prashanth Rai, who finished with eight raid points.

Kandola has 79 points from nine matches so far and has also notched up a total of four Super 10s thus far in this edition of the PKL.

#4 Maninder Singh (Bengal Warriors)

Maninder Singh had a fantastic outing in the Delhi leg where he led the offense of the team upfront. He has been able to raid freely this season with decent support from K Prapanjan in the raiding unit. Courtesy of the consistent show from the raiding unit, the Bengal Warriors have the most raid points so far in Season 7.

Maninder Singh scored 15 raid points versus Haryana Steelers in their first outing in the Delhi leg. In 15 successful raid attempts, he picked up 13 touch points apart from two bonus points as well. However, the team failed to win the match just by a margin of three points (33-36) as Haryana claimed a thrilling win in the end.

In their second outing against Tamil Thalaivas, Maninder Singh grabbed nine raid points along with a brilliant Super-10 from K Prapanjan. A stellar performance from both raiders helped Bengal dominate the Thalaivas to win 35-26

Maninder Singh has 92 raid points in 11 matches at an average of 8.36 raid points and has scored four Super 10s thus far in this edition.

#3 Pawan Sehrawat (Bengaluru Bulls)

Matches Played - 2, Total Raid Points - 25

Pawan Sehrawat was impressive in both matches which he played in the Delhi leg. Pawan went berserk in the offense in his first match against the hosts Dabang Delhi K.C. He scored 17 raid points in the game, including 12 touch points apart from five bonus points.

In the Bulls' next clash, the defending champions defeated Jaipur Pink Panthers in a one-sided encounter courtesy of their raiding duo of Rohit Kumar and Pawan Sehrawat. Skipper Rohit Kumar scored a Super 10 as Pawan Sehrawat switched his role to a support raider with eight raid points.

Sehrawat leads the list of most raid points for this season with 128 raid points so far in 11 matches at an average of 11.64 raid points per game, including six Super 10s.

#2 Manjeet Dahiya (Puneri Paltan)

Manjeet Dahiya emerged as a surprise in the list of the top raiders in the Delhi leg. He led the offense upfront as the lead raider for the Puneri Paltan in their two matches.

He achieved the highest score by any Puneri Paltan player in the season - 16 raid points - against UP Yoddha. He stepped up to lead the attack in the absence of Nitin Tomar but could not take the team across the finishing line as UP Yoddha managed to defeat the Paltan 35-30.

Puneri Paltan faced Telugu Titans in the next encounter as Manjeet Dahiya scored eight raid points and was handed decent support from Nitin Tomar, as the duo troubled the Titans defenders all through the game and led the team to a 34-27 win in the end.

Matches Played - 4, Total Raid Points - 55

Naveen Goyat has been a stand-out performer for Dabang Delhi K.C. this season. He broke records in the Delhi leg with his sensational raiding skills that was a major driving force in Dabang Delhi's unbeaten run at home.

Naveen Goyat surpassed Pardeep Narwal's record of the most consecutive Super 10s by a raider in Pro Kabaddi history with nine successive Super 10s and also became the fastest raider to cross 300 raid points, getting to the landmark in just 33 matches as he smashed the record set by Maninder Singh, who reached the figure in 35 matches. Naveen finished with 55 raid points from Delhi leg at an average of 13.75 raid points per game.

Naveen scored 13 raid points versus Bengaluru Bulls, 16 raid points versus UP Yoddha, 11 raid points versus U Mumba and 15 raid points versus Patna Pirates in four outings at home. Naveen kept his nerve in his final raids against Bengaluru and Patna while he dominated the opposition against the Yoddha and U Mumba.

In what has been a remarkable outing, Naveen Goyat now has the green-arm band with 130 raid points in 11 matches at an average of 11.81 this season.
