Can Pune's defence stand tall to keep the Warriors' raiding threat at bay?

In the second game of Pro Kabaddi 2019 today, the Bengal Warriors will be taking on Puneri Paltan in match 17 of the season at the Dome@NSCI SVP Stadium in Mumbai.

You can follow the live commentary and updates from the match here.

The Warriors started the season in fine fashion with a dominating 48-17 win over UP Yoddha, with Mohammad Nabibakhsh and Maninder Singh topping the raid charts. Nabibakhsh, in particular was in superb touch as he notched up a Super 10 on his debut while Maninder chipped in with 9 raid points.

On the defensive front, Baldev Singh has been one of the standouts, with two High 5s to his name from two games. He's also had support from the likes of Jeeva Kumar and Rinku Narwal and if the trio strike with their dashes and holds, it could prove to be curtains for the relatively inexperienced Paltan raiders.

Yet, the Paltan have their own issues, with Girish Ernak failing to keep the raiders down in crucial moments that has gifted easy points to the opposition raiders. Against the strong raiding unit of the Bengal Warriors, the alliance of Surjeet Singh and Girish Ernak will undoubtedly have a massive impact on the outcome of the game.

While the head to head records favor the Puneri Paltan, the team seems to be lacking confidence, with only Pawan Kadian contributing on the raiding front. The absence of Nitin Tomar has hit the team hard and they will need an all-round performance to overcome the challenge posed by the new-look Bengal Warriors.

This encounter will see Surjeet Singh, who led the Warriors into the qualifiers last season face off against his former team, while Maninder Singh will be keen on making matters difficult for the Paltan defenders.
