Till next time, this is Shashwat Kumar signing off! Goodbye!
And, fittingly, Poonam Yadav is named the Player of the Match!
India win the opening encounter of the Women's World T20!
India began the contest extremely brightly as Shafali imposed herself on the hosts' bowling attack. However, post her dismissal, India found it tough to keep up the scoring tempo, meaning that Australia hauled themselves back into the game and restricted the visitors to a middling total of 132.

Yet, the Indians found a way to roar back into the match themselves when Poonam Yadav weaved undecipherable patterns around the Australians. She ended up with four wickets and completely turned the tide on its head.

Ultimately, India were rewarded for their tidy bowling display and they leave Sydney with two points firmly tucked in their kitty.
India win by 17 runs!
India effect an easy run out on the final delivery of the innings and they win the encounter by 17 runs. A simply astonishing bowling performance by the Eves In Blue.
19.5 OUT! Run Out. Shikha Pandey to Molly Strano. Half volley, driving, Played to mid off for 1 run, fielded by Rodrigues.
19.4 Shikha Pandey to Megan Schutt. Half volley, working, Played to mid wicket for 1 run.
19.3 Shikha Pandey to Megan Schutt. Yorker, pushing, mis-timed back to bowler for no runs, fielded by Pandey.
19.2 OUT! Caught & Bowled. Shikha Pandey to Ashleigh Gardner. Full toss, pulling, mis-timed back to bowler, by Pandey.
Shikha gets rid of Gardner! And, that should be that!
Shikha bowls a thigh-high full toss and that messes up with Gardner's timing. The delivery strikes her bat near the maker's name and lobs up towards Shikha, who completes the catch and hammers the final nail into Australia's coffin.
Drama in the final over!
Strano swings wildly at a wide delivery outside the off-stump and apparently gets an under edge. But, the ball doesn't seem to carry to the keeper, although the umpires want to have a check. Replays show that the ball bounced before the keeper and Australia, in the meanwhile, also scamper a single.
19.1 APPEAL! Shikha Pandey to Molly Strano. Length ball, driving, Played to wicketkeeper for 1 run, by Bhatia, appeal made for Caught.
A dot to finish the over! And, Australia now need 21 off the final six deliveries!
Deepti bowls it a little flatter and fuller, meaning that Gardner can't get under it as she tries to agriculturally heave it over the leg-side. Brilliant bowling display by India's spinners.
Over 19 | Summary: 1 . . 1W 4 . Bowler: D Sharma AUW: 112/8(RR 5.89)
18.6 Deepti Sharma to Ashleigh Gardner. Length ball, pulling, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by Bhatia.
Four for Garnder!
Deepti bowls it a tad short and Gardner is onto it in a flash. She goes back and then hammers the delivery through square leg for four. 21 required off 7 balls now.
18.5 FOUR! Deepti Sharma to Ashleigh Gardner. Short, pulling, Played past deep square leg for 4 runs.
Kimmince is run out at the bowler's end!
Gardner powers the ball towards mid-wicket and she decides to hare down for the second. However, in the process, she opts for a non-existent second as Kimmince is found short of her ground at the bowler's end. Excellent work by Jemimah to rip the throw in after picking it up in one go. However, one reckons that Kimmince needed to make that sacrifice to keep Gardner on strike.
18.4 OUT! Run Out. Deepti Sharma to Ashleigh Gardner. Length ball, pulling, Played to long on for 1 run, fielded by Rodrigues.
Gardner has been swinging for the hills in the 19th over and has failed to connect. Deepti has done well to slow things down and force the batswoman to generate the requisite power.
18.3 Deepti Sharma to Ashleigh Gardner. Back of a length, pulling, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by Bhatia.
18.2 Deepti Sharma to Ashleigh Gardner. Length ball, driving, hit pad to short leg for no runs.
18.1 Deepti Sharma to Delissa Kimmince. Yorker, driving, mis-timed to mid on for 1 run.
Australia require 27 runs off 12 deliveries. Can Gardner pull it off or will India complete an improbable heist?
Poonam finishes her spell with figures of 4-0-19-4. An absolutely spell-binding display of bowling and one that has cast India as favourites to win this encounter.

17.5 Poonam Yadav to Ashleigh Gardner. Full toss, driving, Played to long on for 1 run.
17.4 Poonam Yadav to Ashleigh Gardner. Length ball, cutting, Played to cover for no runs.
17.3 Poonam Yadav to Ashleigh Gardner. Half volley, glancing, Played to mid wicket for no runs.
O! My word! What has happened there! The stumps have been disturbed by an absolutely wretched delivery, despite the ball seemingly bouncing twice before reaching the batswoman! Drama at Sydney!
Poonam drags one down dreadfully and Gardner looks to hit her into next week. But, the ball is so short that it actually bounces twice before reaching the crease. Gardner is well into her shot and misses it completely, before the ball hits her thigh pad and cannons into the stumps. The umpires indulge in a discussion and then determine the delivery to be a no-ball, for it had bounced twice.
