So that's it from Sportkeeda's coverage of the Bangladesh vs Afghanistan clash that took place at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. We'll see you all tomorrow with our live coverage of the 32nd fixture of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, to be played between England and Australia.
Afghanistan play Pakistan next on Saturday and Bangladesh will face Team India on June 30.
The captains speak...
Obviously, the last game was tough but today, we weren't good on the field and gave 30-40 runs extra. It was a slow wicket with help for the spinners but batting wasn't that hard. Credit to Shakib, he bowled really well. He is a strong hitter, so we wanted to hold him back and hence, sent Ikram up so that he could rotate the strike. But it didn't work. We have done a lot of good things in the tournament. To do well in such a tournament, you need to prepare well. We didn't have some things going our way like some key injuries and all.
Mortaza, the winning captain:
The crowd has been really superb for us and the atmosphere has been amazing. He has been outstanding for us in the tournament, he keeps scoring runs in every game and also comes on to bowl whenever needed. That partnership between Mushy and Shakib was important, as the track wasn't easy to bat on. Tamim batted well too and then the finish from Mosaddek was also crucial. Obviously, that's a call for the physio to make but there's a week left and I think he should be fine. If we play well, we should be able to do well (against India and Pakistan).
Shakib Al Hasan is the Man of the Match. He produced his best ever ODI bowling figures of 5/29.
HE says, "Yes it's been great throughout this WC. Luckily we started well so the fans have been behind us. I think the five wickets gave me greater pleasure. I had to work really hard for the fifty. Mushfiq played an important knock, without him we wouldn't have got the runs. We knew it was going to be tough with their three spinners, so it needed a team effort. I did work really hard before the WC, I was well prepared. The best I could ever be prepared. It's paying off. Definitely want it to carry on. Our next two games against India and Pakistan are big games."
Seven losses in a row for Afghanistan. The Bangla tigers win their third game so far. Three wins three defeats and one washout game.
Had Afghanistan elected to bat first, had they promoted Najibullah Zadran up the order. Had they played Samiullah Shinwari enough. The story could've been different... But let's not get carried away by the could have beens. Shakib has one more time sailed Bangladesh's boat. 5/29 that's amazing!
OUT! Saifuddin gets Mujeeb and it's over for Afghanistan. Shinwari remains not out at 49. Good innings by the right-handed batsman. Where was he all this while!
